'Unbelievable': Matheus Cunha says he absolutely loves one thing Wolves fans do on matchdays

Matheus Cunha has talked up the Wolves fans after his first full season at Molineux – and says there’s one particular aspect of their support he finds ‘unbelievable’.

Cunha was one of the outstanding performers for Wolves in 2023/24, as he finished the campaign with 22 goal involvements.

Right from the off, Cunha established himself as one of Gary O’Neil‘s most important players due to his his ball-carrying, work-rate and creativity in the final third.

Cunha linked up brilliantly with his fellow forwards Hwang Hee-chan and Pedro Neto, and was just fantastic throughout.

Sadly, his season was temporarily halted in February when he sustained a ‘significant’ hamstring injury. That put him on the sideline, and Wolves really suffered without him with O’Neil turning to youngsters like Nathan Fraser and Leon Chiwome.

But it was still a great season from Cunha, who really felt the love from the fans…

It has been quite clear from the moment he came in that Cunha is an emotional person.

He always wears his heart on his sleeve, and absolutely adores the reception he gets from supporters on matchdays.

Cunha arrived at Wolves having played for a huge club in Atletico Madrid, but he has been blown away by the support at Molineux – and he especially loves all the songs that ring around Molineux.

He said (via Wolves official): “You make a connection. I think, first of all, with teammates and the club. The fans do a lot of things for us, the music and the songs are unbelievable, and we do a lot of things for them.

“I always say, before the game I’ll do something like this (the celebrations), but honestly, in the game you don’t remember.

“These kinds of things come. I know the fans talk with us about the West Bromwich game, I scored, and I saw the fans, their unbelievable happiness – this is our place, you can be happy here also.”

Cunha loves the fans, and the feeling is mutual

It’s great to hear Cunha acknowledging the fans like this and you do get the sense he genuinely appreciates all the support he gets. And the support he gets is very understandable.

Cunha is an extremely likeable player. The 24-year-old always speaks really well, and is very easy to root for due to the way he plays.

He works very hard in games, and is also capable of producing moments of magic, such as the hat-trick against Chelsea or the stunning solo goal against Nottingham Forest.

Without doubt, he is a fan favourite and he is one of several players to have helped make Wolves a much more enjoyable watch.
