Report: Manchester United now preparing mega bid to sign 'extremely fast' South American

Manchester United are now preparing a bid – described as a mega offer – to sign a South American wonderkid.

Despite questions mark over the future of Erik ten Hag, INEOS are still putting recruitment plans in place, to ensure whoever is in charge at Old Trafford next season has an improved squad.

Primarily, the defensive department is under the spotlight, after a chaotic campaign in that area.

Ten Hag has been forced to use a number of different defensive partnerships amid injuries to Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane, as Jonny Evans and Willy Kambwala were thrust into the spotlight.

Now, Manchester United are looking to rectify a lack of depth in this area with a bid for one of Argentina’s finest talents…

Manchester United set to make Aaron Anselmino offer

A story from Planeta Boca Juniors now claims that Manchester United are preparing a “mega” bid to sign Aaron Anselmino.

The Argentinian news outlet state that the Red Devils know they are on the trail of a real footballing gem, and are prepared to submit a significant bid to ensure the 19-year-old ends up at Old Trafford.

Planeta Boca Juniors add that Manchester United have been tracking Anselmino since the start of 2024 – with Chelsea also very keen to sign the teenager.

The precocious central defender signed a new contract with Boca Juniors at the start of May – which runs until December 2028 – which consequently saw his market value shoot up.

As such, Manchester United are ready to offer €25m (£21m) to sign Anselmino, which is quite a hefty fee for a teenager who has never represented Argentina at any age level.

Room for the Argentine to shine

A move directly from Boca Juniors to Manchester United may be quite daunting for Anselmino, although if an agreement does materialise, we think the South American has a good chance of succeeding.

For one, the defender has been labelled as an “extremely fast” defender in a scouting report from Foot The Ball – something which should stand him in good stead amid the physical rigours of the Premier League.

Furthermore – as aforesaid – Manchester United lack depth in the defensive department, so Anselmino may not have to sit on the sidelines and wait for his chance, like Amad Diallo had to do.

Of course – despite these points – it is still a daunting transfer, but with fellow Argentines in Martinez and Alejandro Garnacho there to help him settle, this move could be a real success if Manchester United and Boca Juniors strike a deal.
