Steve Bruce says he's spotted how Manchester United fans really feel about Erik ten Hag

Manchester United legend Steve Bruce says he believes Erik ten Hag has support from match going supporters.

Erik ten Hag has been under pressure this season after taking a big backwards step. Manchester United finished in eighth place, after a third place finish last season.

There are questions being asked over his future, with new investors Ineos yet to back him publicly.

Ten Hag’s future is still open, with supporters left disappointed by the team’s performance this seasons.

Steve Bruce says fans behind Erik ten Hag

Legendary Manchester United captain Steve Bruce has been speaking about Erik ten Hag ahead of the FA Cup final.

He was at Old Trafford for Manchester United’s recent win over Newcastle, and says that while the constant speculation is not easy for the manager, he believes supporters are fully behind the Dutchman.

Bruce said: “There is all this speculation all the time… talk about the manager’s future and the replacements being linked, it does have a negative effect.

“To be fair, I’ve been to Old Trafford recently and the backing for Ten Hag has been great.

“Forget social media, I always look at what is happening inside the stadium and certainly the rallying call he gave on the pitch after the Newcastle game, all around me it was positive.”

Ten Hag has it all to prove

While Bruce is right that supporters want to get behind the team and back the manager, it has not always been positive this season.

Winning the FA Cup semi-final should have been a joyous occasion, but there were muted/barely audible celebrations after United’s win against Coventry City last month.

This was due to the embarrassing way United surrendered a three-goal lead and scraped through on penalties against a Championship side.

A far better performance is required when United take on City this weekend at Wembley, although, to be fair, many fans would accept a bad performance this time if it ended up with a cup final victory.
