Tyrick Mitchell may feel excited by what happened on Wednesday, could be great news for Palace - Opinion

After what will have been a disappointing week for Tyrick Mitchell, what happened on Wednesday will be exciting for him and Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace have had an excellent first week following the finale of the Premier League season which has been highlighted by four players being called up into the England squad.

Besides the international call-ups, this week has also seen two interesting transfer targets edge closer to making the move to Selhurst Park.

Finally, there’s been a boost in terms of Dougie Freedman remaining at the club, as he’s rejected interest from Newcastle.

Tyrick Mitchell could be handed a golden opportunity after what happened on Wednesday

When the England squad was announced, Crystal Palace fans were gobsmacked over the exclusion of Mitchell.

Mitchell wasn’t included by Gareth Southgate in the squad despite a concerning lack of options at left-back, something Mitchell could have solved had he been brought by England.

The boost for Mitchell comes as Kieran Trippier who’d be a left-back option for Palace has potentially picked up an injury, as per The Telegraph, while featuring in a ridiculous friendly against Spurs which shouldn’t have been played.

If Trippier’s injury is serious as the ice pack on the ankle indicated it being a scare at least, then Southgate may be forced to replace him in the squad.

If this happens, there’s no option better than Mitchell to replace him for England. In the event that Mitchell did get handed a call-up, it would also be a boost for Palace.

Why another call-up would be good news for Crystal Palace

With Palace potentially having a hefty chunk of players playing in the tournament this summer, it could end up being quite lucrative for the Eagles.

UEFA have a pot of money set aside which goes to clubs that have players involved, dependent on how many players and how long they remain in the competition.

The daily figure stands at £7,424 which doesn’t sound like a lot in isolation but accumulated over the month, with England tipped to go far, it could work out close to a million at £900,000.

However, the figure could actually be even higher, with UEFA now also giving clubs an eight per cent cut of broadcast, commercial and ticketing revenue generated from the Euros.

The overall pot will be worth £170m which could push Palace’s take-home pay around £1.5m and with Mitchell also in there, it would only increase.
