£8m Chelsea manager target rejects Sevilla, he wants to manage in the Premier League - Romano

One of the leading candidates to replace Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea has recently rejected an approach from Spanish side Sevilla, preferring to stay in England.

Todd Boehly and his team certainly aren’t wasting any time in searching for their next boss, aware of their new manager’s need to oversee a full pre-season.

Although the decision to part ways with Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t been popular among a lot of Chelsea fans, the club were right to act quickly with whatever they had decided.

And there now seem to be a few outstanding candidates for the vacant post, all stemming from England.

TBR Football recently shared that Thiago Motta wouldn’t be the new Chelsea boss – his entourage rejected an approach given he’s set to join Juventus.

And former Germany and Bayern Munich boss, Hansi Flick, has also shown similar reticence, stating his lack of interest in the job.

Perhaps the pair weren’t necessarily among Chelsea’s first choice options anyway – who appear to be Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna, departing Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi and Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca.

Chelsea manager target Enzo Maresca rejects Sevilla in favour of Premier League stay

That being said, Enzo Maresca is attracting a lot of attention following Leicester’s brilliant season, and the attractive football they played.

Maresca changed Leicester’s style, honing their positional play in a similar fashion to Manchester City.

And to that end, Fabrizio Romano has just shared an update on the Italian manager’s future over on X.

Romano confirmed that an approach from Sevilla in recent weeks was rejected, with Maresca keen to work in the Premier League.

He shared: “Enzo Maresca received approach by Sevilla in the recent weeks but he didn’t want to advance in talks.

“Maresca wants to focus on the Premier League, he wants to work in PL football and stay in England.

“His new release clause is £7/8m.”

Of course, Maresca will now get that chance with his promoted side Leicester – but could this position perhaps bode well for Chelsea?

The release clause mentioned isn’t too substantial, and Chelsea’s revival could be considered one of the most exciting managerial opportunities in England – despite the risks it may also bring.

Should Chelsea approach Maresca he would certainly have a tough decision to make, even if he has always stated his commitment to Leicester.

All that being said, Fabrizio Romano has just shared an update the possibility of Antonio Conte taking the Chelsea job.
