Cambridge United youngster Glenn McConnell signs new three-year contract with Sky Bet League One club

Glenn McConnell has committed his long-term future to Cambridge United by signing a new three-year contract.

The highly-rated 19-year-old has risen through the ranks at the Cledara Abbey Stadium, having joined the club as an under-9.

He signed a first pro deal in 2021 and following a loan spell in the Vanarama National League South with St Albans City, he returned last season to make seven senior appearances for the U’s before being sidelined by injury.

The attacker said: “It was an easy decision for me to sign as I believe the club is heading in a really good direction both on and off the pitch.

“I feel as though I am in a position where I can impact the team. I am also very excited to work with the manager as his philosophy and style of play are similar to mine.

“This past season was a good season for me getting my first few appearances in the first team and although it didn’t end how I wanted, I have been working hard to get stronger and fitter so I can come back with a bang this summer.”

Meanwhile, first-team coach Garry Monk added: “We are delighted that Glenn has chosen to commit his future to Cambridge United for the next three years. We are all aligned in our belief that he has huge potential and that he is ready to contribute to the first team in a meaningful way.

"I have been really impressed with the way in which Glenn has conducted himself in the time I have been at the club and I am really looking forward to working with him over the next few years.”
