Loan club want Arsenal 'wonderful talent' in permanent transfer after impressive spell

There are likely to be a significant amount of departures from Arsenal this summer, with Marquinhos amongst the players that could leave.

The winger joined Fluminense on loan in February, with the agreement set to run until January 2025 and his loan side having a purchase option after that.

However, RTI Esporte have reported that the Brazilian club could look to sign Marquinhos permanently this summer.

Marquinhos has made a major impact so far during his loan spell at Fluminense and has also demonstrated his adaptability by featuring at right-back in recent games.

Marquinhos is excelling on loan at Fluminense

The 21-year-old has impressed for Fluminense with his attacking attributes but his versatility makes him a key asset and he works hard in order to close opponents down.

During his time at the Canaries, Marquinhos scored once in eleven appearances and earned praise from Dean Ashton, who dubbed the winger a ‘wonderful talent’ with ‘special’ abilities. Meanwhile, he failed to find the net in seven games for Nantes.

Marquinhos will be delighted with the progress that he is making at Fluminense, especially after previous loan spells at Norwich City and Nantes didn’t go to plan.

Having returned to Brazil, he is now playing with confidence again and is showing why Arsenal elected to sign him in 2022.

Marquinhos scored on his Arsenal debut against Zurich in the Europa League but wasn’t really provided with an opportunity to challenge for regular minutes with the Gunners.

Selling Marquinhos would benefit all parties

Although Arsenal could benefit from having another option out wide, it would probably be more beneficial for Marquinhos’ development if he was to remain at Fluminense as this would give him the best chance of fulfilling his potential.

Selling Marquinhos would also benefit Arsenal as it would provide them with a small addition to their transfer budget for the summer.

If Marquinhos were to leave Arsenal then he may well feel somewhat frustrated with regards to his lack of playing time at Emirates Stadium.

That said, the move from Sao Paulo certainly served to enhance his profile and if he continues to make an impact with Fluminense then it is possible that other major clubs could attempt to sign him in the future.

Arsenal have decisions to make on some of their other loanees this summer, including striker Mika Biereth, who has been hugely impressive for Sturm Graz after excelling for Motherwell earlier in the campaign.

With regards to Marquinhos, Arsenal will not have to deliberate for too long as a sale certainly appears to be the best option for all parties.
