Joe Gomez has played with some incredible players at Liverpool.
The England international has worked with a number of truly world-class players during his time at Anfield, and now, he’s reserved some special praise for one of his teammates.
Indeed, speaking to The Anfield Wrap, Gomez was full of praise for Virgil van Dijk and his role as the captain at Liverpool, claiming that he is the best in the world at what he does.

Gomez spoke highly of the defender.
“Virg has just done it in his own way and it’s made him even more appreciated amongst us in the team. His ability speaks for itself he’s the best at what he does, he’s the best in the world, and he’s probably the best the club has ever had in that position,” Gomez said.
“It’s been a joy to watch, he’s taken it more than in his stride, I’m so happy for him and I’m sure he’s so proud to be captain of his country and his club.”
Van Dijk is the world’s best
Gomez says that Van Dijk is the best centre-back on the planet, and it’s hard to disagree.
Van Dijk is a rare breed of defender who absolutely has it all.
The Dutchman is brilliant at pretty much everything. He’s strong, he’s fast, he reads the game incredibly well, he’s a fantastic passer and his leadership is second-to-none.
Van Dijk may not receive the same level of praise as someone like Mohamed Salah, but make no mistake about it, the Dutchman is one of Liverpool’s best and most important players.
As Gomez says, Van Dijk is the best in the world at what he does, and the Reds are incredibly lucky to have him.
