Talented Arsenal youngster makes England U18 debut as another Hale End gem wins a penalty

Arsenal have some very talented youngsters coming through the ranks at the club and two of them featured as England U18s won 4-2 against their Northern Ireland counterparts in a friendly at St George’s Park on Wednesday.

Ayden Heaven has enjoyed an excellent season of progress at Arsenal and the defender made his first appearance for England at any level.

Previously a midfielder who was often compared to Paul Pogba for his playing style, Heaven is now almost exclusively used in defence for Arsenal and mainly plays as a centre-back.

Via England Football, Heaven played the whole 90 minutes against Northern Ireland and will also hope to be involved in some capacity when England take on Morocco on Sunday.

There was another highly-rated Arsenal prospect involved for England U18s against Northern Ireland, with Myles Lewis-Skelly captaining the side.

Lewis-Skelly had already previously featured for the U18s and also has a lot of experience on the international stage at U17 level.

Against Northern Ireland, Lewis-Skelly made a major impact as he provided an assist for Romelle Donovan and also won the penalty from which Ethan Wheatley found the net.

Kadan Young and Ajay Matthews also netted for a talented England side, with Lewis-Skelly playing 55 minutes.

Gaining international experience will certainly be beneficial for both prospects in terms of their overall development and it will be interesting to see what lies in store for them next season.

With his impressive composure in possession, Heaven is very much a modern-style centre-back, although he does still make some costly errors at times, which is something he needs to look to reduce.

Lewis-Skelly, meanwhile, has shown his versatility by featuring at left-back at times, but the expectation is that he will mainly be used a deep-lying midfielder; a position which enables him to make a contribution both defensively and in a creative sense.

Ethan Nwaneri could also be involved with England U18s in the near future but for now, the highly-regarded midfielder is representing the U17s at the European Championship for that age group. Nwaneri scored a superb goal as England commenced their group-stage campaign with a 4-0 victory against France.

Nwaneri, Lewis-Skelly and Heaven all signed scholarship deals with Arsenal last summer. The first two have already progressed to professional terms, while Arsenal will also be looking to tie Heaven down to a longer contract.
