'Amazing': Diogo Dalot suggests he's actually been so impressed by Manchester United man this season

Diogo Dalot has suggested that he has been hugely impressed by one Manchester United man this season, insisting that he has been amazing.

Manchester United go into the FA Cup final off the back of their worst ever Premier League finish this past campaign, with the side finishing down in eighth with a negative goal difference.

It has certainly been a big step backwards after what was a promising first year at Old Trafford for Erik ten Hag, and some would see an unlikely FA Cup win as papering over the cracks.

Some have suggested that they would be surprised to see ten Hag still at Manchester United next season. But it would appear that Diogo Dalot would be happy to see him still in charge.

Speaking to The Times, Dalot suggested that ten Hag has given everything to turn United’s fortunes around, and has done a great job in a lot of ways.

“We look to him as our leader and they always take the bullets for everyone,” he says. “But make no mistake, we take responsibility for what we do on the pitch. Obviously he tries to give his best, we try to give our best. With players and the manager, we have a good connection and he’s been an amazing manager in terms of trying to put us back on top.”

Huge question mark over Erik ten Hag’s future

In fairness to ten Hag, United have had a remarkable number of injuries, with a number of players filling in in unfamiliar positions at various stages during the season.

However, it would be no surprise if there were a number of United fans who would not be disappointed if the FA Cup final proved to be his final game in charge – regardless of the outcome.

United finished 31 points off the summit in the Premier League, and there does not appear to be a clear identity within the side, with the team often relying on moments of sheer quality from individuals.

Rio Ferdinand noted that the importance of Bruno Fernandes became apparent when he was absent for the defeats against Crystal Palace and Arsenal.

Much may come down to which managers are available to United this summer. But it may help that players such as Dalot remain behind ten Hag.
