Report: Nottingham Forest will now sell player for £15m after Nuno loaned him out in January

Nottingham Forest are now set to sell one of the players that they sent out on loan earlier this season.

The Reds had a busy summer during 2023 and it looks as though the 2024 instalment of the transfer window will be no different.

In January, Forest tried to focus on getting players out of the door, with news of a financial fair play breach hanging over their heads.

Now, one of the players who left during the mid-season window looks set to move on a permanent basis this summer.

Nottingham Forest will now sell Orel Mangala

This one isn’t overly surprising given that a price was pretty much agreed before he joined Lyon on loan.

Now, according to French journalist Hugo Guillemet, Mangala will become a permanent player for the Ligue 1 outfit.

It looks as though Forest will now bank another £15 million for the Belgian, withFabrizio Romano confirming the details in February on social media.

Mangala made 19 starts for Forest in all competitions and it was perhaps a bit surprising that he was allowed to leave.

The 26-year-old helped revive Lyon though and when he first arrived at the club they were in the relegation zone.

He made eight appearances in Ligue 1 for the team as they finished the campaign with just two defeats from 14 matches.

Lyon ended up finishing sixth in the table and pipped Lens to a place in the Europa Conference League for next season.

Mangala suffered identity crisis at the City Ground

The Belgium international was always a very tidy player when he performed for Forest but it wasn’t always clear what midfield role he was capable of.

In fairness, during 2023/24, he did start to settle in the side and it was a surprise when news of a possible departure emerged.

The central midfield is probably one area which Forest can afford to lose a player, however.

Danilo has been brilliant this season, Ryan Yates does a job, whilst Nicolas Dominguez is also a very capable footballer.

Furthermore, Ibrahim Sangare is still at the club and Forest will fancy him to bounce back next season.

Selling Mangala looks like very good business from a Forest perspective and hopefully, the club can avoid any points deductions next season.
