Reality TV star's husband's death helped her 'understand what it means to live'

The death of Bozoma Saint John’s husband, Peter, taught her what it really means to live. He left behind both the successful RHOBH newbie and their daughter in 2013 after his passing.

From 2003 until his death in 2013, Bozoma Saint John and Peter had two children. In an excerpt from her memoir, The Urgent Life, Bozoma Saint John recounts when she and her late husband lost their baby girl.

Bozoma Saint John’s husband passed away in 2013

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills newbie, Bozoma Saint John’s husband, Peter, death took place over a decade ago. Her late husband gave her the “gift of urgency” and “the grace” to be more determined.

The two met over 20 years ago in the cafeteria of the building they both worked in New York. However, they didn’t start off on the right foot. In fact, Peter told Bozoma to “hurry up, as she’s not royalty”.

For the following few days, he kept asking Bozoma out on a date, and eventually they fell in love, after she gifted him a book. Peter painted a photo of the book, and “knew one day she’d marry him”.

Peter died on December 11, 2013, at age 44, from cancer, leaving behind Bozoma Saint John and their daughter. At the latter stages of cancer, he could not talk and would lay in bed staring at her.

His first question after being diagnosed was, “What about my girl?” while in an excerpt of her book, The Urgent Life, shared by ELLE, Bozoma said her husband’s death helped her understand how to live.

“Loss taught me to live with urgency,” Saint John writes. “Faith taught me that I could survive the unimaginable. And love gave me the endurance to overcome not only fear but overwhelming grief.”

They had two children together

Bozoma Saint John and her husband have a daughter, Lael, together, who he spent four years of his life with. They also had another daughter together called Eve, who sadly passed away prematurely.

When Bozoma was six and a half months pregnant, Peter had to make the difficult decision to save her over their baby.

Peter and Bozoma later co-parented their daughter, Lael, when the two were separated. When he was ill, he told her, “I’ll go to heaven and take care of Eve, while you stay here and take care of Lael.”
