A 69-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of pensioner Una Crown, who was found dead in her bungalow in 2013.
David Newton was last month charged with the 86-year-old’s murder at her home on Magazine Close in Wisbech 11 years ago.
Newton, also of Magazine Close, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court yesterday for a plea and trial preparation hearing, at which he entered a not guilty plea.
Mrs Crown was found dead in her home on Sunday, January 13, 2013. Her body had been set on fire and she had multiple stab wounds to her neck and chest.
Until a post-mortem examination was carried out, her death was initially treated as unexplained.
The retired postmistress had last been seen alive on Friday, January 11, 2013 - just two days before her body was discovered - when she was seen on CCTV leaving a supermarket.
Mrs Crown had spoken to a friend over the phone at about 5pm on the Saturday, the day before she was discovered by police.
A trial is set to start on January 6 or January 13 next year, with a time estimate of four weeks.
