Wisbech swimmers record several personal best times over long-course distance at regionals

Wisbech Swimming Club had five representatives competing in this year's East Regional Championships, which were held over two weekends in May.

This was the most swimmers the club has taken to the championship for several years and their hard work paid off with a total of six personal best times achieved over the two weekends.

The first weekend was held at the Sportspark in Norwich, Madison Hicks completed the 200m IM where she swam a PB time for a very respectable 18th place finish.

A week later they were back at Norwich and the weekend started with the 200m butterfly.

Holly Smith had an excellent swim, competing at a long course event for the first time and in her first Regional Championship.

Hicks, competing for the third successive year at regional level, won her heat in a PB time and progressed into the final later in the day where she was sixth with another PB.

On Sunday, Wisbech had three first-timers at the Regional Championships.

Race Elmer swam in the 200m butterfly, Poppy Ryan continued the PB long course time in the 200m breaststroke in her first Regional Championship and Lilly Wright clocked a PB in the 50m butterfly, narrowly missing out on the final by 0.04 of a second in ninth place.

Hicks finished the weekend for Wisbech in the 400m IM and brought home the final PB of the weekend on her way to a seventh-place finish.
