Wisbech man David Newton denies 2013 murder of retired postmistress Una Crown and will stand trial

A 69-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to the murder of pensioner Una Crown, who was found dead in her bungalow in 2013.

David Newton was last month charged with the 86-year-old’s murder at her home on Magazine Close in Wisbech 11 years ago.

Newton, also of Magazine Close, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court yesterday for a plea and trial preparation hearing, at which he entered a not guilty plea.

Mrs Crown was found dead in her home on Sunday, January 13, 2013. Her body had been set on fire and she had multiple stab wounds to her neck and chest.

Until a post-mortem examination was carried out, her death was initially treated as unexplained.
