Man who forced women into prostitution in N.J. sentenced to 10 years in prison

A Philadelphia man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Thursday after pleading guilty to charges he recruited and physically threatened women to engage in prostitution, U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger announced Friday.

Mallie M. Evans, 37, previously pleaded guilty to one count of transporting someone in interstate commerce with the intent to engage prostitution.

Authorities alleged that from 2015 through 2017, Evans recruited multiple victims to engage in prostitution for his own financial benefit by using fraud, emotional manipulation, physical violence and death threats.

Evans transported the victims between Philadelphia and central and southern New Jersey to engage in prostitution, according to court documents in the case.

In addition to the 10-year prison sentence, Evans must also spend 10 years under supervised release, authorities said.

Evans’ attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.
