Report: Chelsea's players now worried that two teammates will be sold after Mauricio Pochettino's exit

Some players in the Chelsea squad are now concerned that two of their teammates could be sold following Mauricio Pochettino’s exit.

On top of Chelsea’s ongoing search to appoint their next head coach, there’s also a summer transfer window just around the corner.

Mauricio Pochettino left as Blues manager this week following the completion of their 2023/24 season, with many reports suggesting that a disagreement between him and the club over transfers was one of the reasons for his exit. For example, The Mirror claimed that Pochettino’s desire to have a greater say on transfers was rebuffed by the club and played a role in his departure.

Chelsea squad fear double sale

The Evening Standard now claims that Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah may be closer to transfer exits this summer.

It is explained that Pochettino was prepared to fight hard to keep midfield star Gallagher, as well as defender Chalobah.

However, Blues chiefs are willing to listen to offers in the window for the homegrown duo, whose sales would be pure profit on the balance sheet.

The report adds that Chelsea players are worried about losing both teammates Gallagher and Chalobah, two individuals that are talented, hard-working and positive figures on the rest of the squad.

Apparently, Gallagher and Chalobah want to stay at Stamford Bridge, but the club’s transfer chiefs have other ideas.

Selling Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah would be terrible

If cashing in on Gallagher and Chalobah helps Chelsea for financial reasons, those making the decision may feel they can justify it.

However, purely from a footballing angle, selling Gallagher and Chalobah is a horrid move.

The Chelsea Chronicle will hope there’s a U-turn still to keep both this summer, but the speculation is very concerning.

Aside from Cole Palmer, Gallagher may have been Chelsea’s best performer this season. It’s no surprise that The Telegraph reports that Aston Villa and Tottenham are keen on signing £50m-rated central midfielder Gallagher. The 24-year-old simply shouldn’t be leaving his boyhood club!

As for Chalobah, 24, his form since returning from injury in the second half of the season proves his value. Any new Blues manager would surely love a consistent defender to pick like Chalobah.
