Melania 'wasn’t pleased to hear' details of Trump trial but 'she's used to a lot worse'

Melania Trump “wasn’t pleased to hear” details of Donald Trump’s hush money trial in New York but she heard “a lot worse” during the 2016 presidential campaign, a US political commentator told GB News.

The trial, in which the defence has now rested its case, has seen the former president accused of covering up a $130,000 payment to buy the silence of porn star Stormy Daniels, who was peddling claims of a sexual encounter with Trump a decade earlier in the final weeks of the 2016 presidential election.

He has pleaded not guilty to 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide his reimbursement to former Trump fixer Michael Cohen, who initially paid for the transaction.

In an interview with GB News’ Steve Edginton, John Fund said Melania has been a “supportive spouse” over the course of the trial.

Edginton asked: “One of the aspects that has perhaps been forgotten throughout [the Trump trial] is Melania and how she has reacted to this whole ordeal. Is she offering him emotional support? Where does she stand in this whole area?”

Fund replied: “Well, Melania hates politics and I think after two campaigns, half of a third [campaign] and four years in the White House she's probably justified in not having a very favourable opinion of Washington DC and now, of course, the American judicial system.

“So she's a supportive spouse, but I think the last thing she wants is to stir up more media coverage by attending the trial or by engaging in some blatantly public show of support.”

Edginton doubled down, expressing that it seemed odd that she had yet to show her support publicly but Fund rebutted: “Well, there are going to be four trials.

“If you showed your support publicly in all four trials, you wouldn't have much free time, would you?”

Edginton continued to ask about Melania's state of mind during the trial process.

“Do you think she feels embarrassed?” Edginton asked, “Obviously, the issues they're talking about are quite personal to Stormy Daniels and so on. Where do you think her state of mind is at?”

Fund said: “No one can be pleased to hear such accounts or tales, you know, in the public media.

“On the other hand, she's used to a lot worse. I mean, what's worse than ‘Golden Showers’, which was part of the 2016 campaign?”

The wild allegations against Donald Trump made by ex-British spy Christopher Steele alleged he had received a “golden shower” from sex workers in Russia following his 2016 election victory.

However, recounting what he told Melania in the wake of the allegations, Trump said: “'He was with four hookers’ — you think that was good that night to go up and tell my wife? ‘It’s not true darling, I love you very much, it’s not true’.

“Actually, that one she didn’t believe because she said: ‘He’s a germaphobe, he’s not into that, you know. He’s not into golden showers as they say’.”

Fund continued: “Melania married Donald Trump over 20 years ago. She was prepared for everything, and she knew who she was marrying. So it's a package.

“And I think that as much as she would like to avoid being in the public spotlight, she knew this was going to be in the public spotlight so long as he was.”

Closing arguments in the hush money trial are now scheduled to be heard next Tuesday, May 28.

The jury is then likely to begin its deliberations the following day.
