Whatever happens with the manager is yet to be seen, but if he goes, there will be a host of players who’ll be gutted, but none more so than the young talents he’s brought through.

Kobbie Mainoo opens up on famous moment with Erik ten Hag

In 2023, United won the Carabao Cup which had fans believing that Ten Hag was the man to restore the club to greatness.

But it was after the cup win that there was a moment which still remains famous among the fanbase, and it was between Mainoo and Ten Hag.

Speaking with Manchester World, Mainoo has now shed light on that situation and revealed what Ten Hag told him.

Mainoo explained that the manager put his arm around him and told him that ‘his day would come’. Continuing he said that Ten Hag told him that they’d win trophies together and he saw Mainoo as being integral to that success.

For Mainoo and Ten Hag, Saturday represents the first chance to make this prophecy come true.

Mainoo and Ten Hag can fulfil this promise for Manchester United

The FA Cup final on Saturday represents the first and potentially the last opportunity for the pair to win silverware together given the countless rumours over the manager’s future.

Ten Hag has turned Mainoo into a vital part of the team and so triumph over Man City would mean that this moment between the two and the promise made by Ten Hag has come true.

It would be poetic for this to come true in what could potentially be Ten Hag’s final game if rumours are to come true.

Mainoo has the chance to lift the first senior trophy of his career too, so there’s really so much at stake in this game.
