‘Love his passion’: David Beckham says he’s a big fan of £225k-a-week Man City player

David Beckham has said that he’s a big admirer of one particular Manchester City player.

Having made 724 club appearances for clubs such as Manchester United, AC Milan and Real Madrid among others, the former midfielder knows exactly what it takes to be a top-level player.

Now that City have won the same number of Premier League titles in the past seven years as Beckham did at United between the 1995/96 and 2002/03 seasons, the Inter Miami owner has highlighted one current figure in Pep Guardiola’s squad he’s a particularly big fan of.

In a recent video shared on the BBC Sport TikTok channel, Beckham and another one of his former United teammates – Gary Neville – were asked to pick between certain players from United’s 1999 side and Guardiola’s current City team.

When asked to pick between Dwight Yorke and Phil Foden, Neville picked the former United striker and then Beckham said this straight after.

He said: “I’d go Yorkey as well. I love Phil though, I do love Phil. I love his passion for the club.”

Foden is City’s homegrown hero

After emerging through the youth ranks at his boyhood club, the midfielder made his senior debut back in 2017 during City’s 1-0 win over Feyenoord in the Champions League.

Since then, the England international has gone on to make 269 appearances for the Blues across all competitions, finding the back of the net 87 times and providing 52 assists.

After seeing the £225k-a-week City star win the FWA Footballer of the Year award, Txiki Begiristain had this to say about Foden.

He said: He is a good example for us. We try to convince the other players to follow him,” he said.

“Of course it’s an award for him and his team-mates but I think this is a special award for Manchester City’s academy.

“He represents all that. A player who loves football, is from Stockport and is enjoying and being professional and adapting himself to the way we want to play.”

With Foden have a very strong connection to the club, it comes as no surprise that Beckham is a big fan of the passion the City star has for his side in addition to his clear talent.
