One club is exploring a move for Newcastle star who their manager has called 'exceptional' - Journalist

Newcastle United fans have had to get used to key players being linked away.

Such was the rapid-fire ascendancy Newcastle embarked on in the immediate wake of the PIF takeover, the notion of big-time players leaving was not something to really consider.

Things, however, may have changed.

While the ambition at the club cannot be doubted, FFP limitations may have an impact this summer.

Newcastle are believed to be looking to balance the books by way of player sales, after all.

Indeed, both Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak have been linked with a move away.

Isak is reportedly the player Eddie Howe wants to build around, though the situation surrounding Guimaraes is far less clear.

Though there have been suggestions he will stay this summer, Howe has already confirmed the midfielder has a release clause in his contract worth around £100m.

Obviously, that means Newcastle would be powerless to stop him leaving should a suitor activate that.

There was some good news recently in that Paris Saint-Germain were thought to have been surprised as to the extent they were linked with a move.

Manchester City, however, have long been touted as a potential landing spot for the £40m star.

Now, more developments have emerged.

Manchester City are still exploring a move for Bruno Guimaraes

According to journalist Ben Jacobs on X (formerly Twitter), the Premier League champions are still exploring a move for the 26-year-old.

He reiterated that City have made contact with Guimaraes and are still considering following that up.

With Lucas Paqueta of West Ham now seemingly off the table, Guimaraes looks like a City target.

Pep Guardiola has already said what he thinks about Bruno Guimares in public

City boss Pep Guardiola has already made his feelings clear about Guimaraes.

Before the two teams played in the FA Cup back in March, Guardiola hailed the Brazil international as an “exceptional holding midfielder”.

He did, however, add that he was “sure” Guimaraes would be a part of Newcastle’s “project” for the next few years.
