Report now provides interesting update on Nuno Espirito Santo's future at Nottingham Forest

There has now been an interesting update on the future of Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest.

Despite keeping the Garibaldi in the Premier League, the 50-year-old did not exactly set the world alight at the City Ground, and Fabrizio Romano claimed talks would take place to determine his future.

Nottingham Forest have been linked with the likes of Roberto De Zerbi in the meantime.

The Standard also claim that Evangelos Marinakis is an admirer of Vincenzo Italiano – who has guided Fiorentina to successive UEFA Conference League finals.

Now – however – there has been an intriguing update on Nuno Espirito Santo himself…

Nuno Espirito Santo expected to stay at Nottingham Forest

A story from The Sun now claims that the São Tomé-born tactician is expected to be in charge of Nottingham Forest when the 2024/25 campaign begins.

It is said that Nuno retains the faith of Marinakis despite ending the 2023/24 campaign with just 32 points from 38 Premier League outings, and is set to lead Nottingham Forest into next season.

It comes after Bayern Munich expressed a desire to appoint the former goalkeeper – although the German giants now look set to hire Vincent Kompany instead.

Nuno oversaw six wins from 21 Premier League games in charge of Nottingham Forest last season after replacing Steve Cooper in December, drawing four while losing 11.

Evangelos Marinakis should have backup options

In our view, Nottingham Forest may not have survived last season if sides stronger than Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United were involved in the relegation battle.

Nuno hardly pulled off a great escape with a haul of just 32 points, and while there is no issue with going into the 2024/25 campaign together, we believe Marinakis should have a shortlist of options, just in case next season begins terribly.

In fairness, it can often be tough to take over a side during the middle of the season, and Nottingham Forest could improve significantly with a full pre-season under the former Wolves boss.
