'He has got to': Kevin Nolan tells Ange Postecoglou the one thing he must get right at Tottenham now

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham side ended up finishing the season with a bit of a whimper but still managed a fifth placed finish.

The Aussie’s first season in charge has brought plenty of attention to say the least.

Postecoglou’s open style of play and attacking football has brought onboard plenty of admirers but there are also those who feel the style ended up costing Spurs as well.

Quite what is the correct opinion there is probably somewhere in-between.

And according to Kevin Nolan, Ange’s way of playing has been found out a tad by Premier League teams.

Kevin Nolan has advice for Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou

Speaking on the BBC’s Friday Football Social, now-former West Ham coach Kevin Nolan has offered up some advice for Postecoglou.

“What I think you have seen with Ange is that there has been a dramatic change at Tottenham and the way they are, the intensity they play. Looking back at it now and over the season, what he would be expected to do is, he has got to get the recruitment right again,” Nolan said.

“Bringing Van de Ven in, bringing the goalkeeper in, has been a really big plus for them this year, but he has got to another two or three to that again this season to start sustaining what he has done.

“It was really good to start off with, but once you played them and you knew it, you picked the holes against it.

“I don’t think you can get away with it in the Premier League, just playing the way he did in the first 10 games and then expect that no one was going to pick up on it.”

Tottenham need a huge summer

Postecoglou spoke about this before the season ended and the need for change and it is so important that both he and the club make the right decisions.

There are a number of players who just have to be moved on for their own and the club’s benefit.

From that, funds should be freed up to allow Ange to bring in new faces who can help his squad get even better over the course of next season and beyond.

As Nolan says, some of Postecoglou’s signings have had a big impact and it’s vital he follows up last summer with players who make a similar impression this summer.

If he does, then that push for the top four might just be on again.
