‘Seen a few rumblings’: Pundit says he’s desperate to see ‘sensational’ £43m player stay at Man City

Michael Brown has said that he hopes one particular Manchester City player doesn’t leave the club this summer.

Previous summer transfer windows have seen numerous players leave the Manchester club to start new chapters in their careers.

For example, the 2023 summer window saw Ilkay Gundogan, Cole Palmer, Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte wave goodbye to the Etihad Stadium and join other clubs.

With another summer transfer period on the horizon, one pundit and former City player has been sharing his thoughts on another current City star and if he could be on his way out over the next few months.

Speaking in a recent episode of The Friday Football Social on BBC Radio 5 Live Sport, Brown had this to say on the matter.

He said: “I think we have seen a few rumblings towards Bernardo Silva for many, many seasons now, whether he is going to go and play somewhere different.

“I think he has been sensational. I hope he stays.”

Could this be Silva’s final season at City?

As Brown mentioned, the midfielder, who City paid £43m to sign back in 2017, has been linked with a move away from the Manchester club previously.

After being linked with a summer exit last year, the Portuguese international signed a contract extension to keep him at City until 2026, although he now has a £50m release clause in his current deal.

Having appeared in 48 games this season across all competitions prior to today’s FA Cup final against Manchester United, it’s undeniable that Silva is a key figure for City.

In fact, after seeing the midfielder score the winning goal in the 1-0 win over Chelsea in the semi-final of the FA Cup last month, Pep Guardiola said that he feels more comfortable and safe when Silva is on the pitch due to the intelligence he has in terms of being able to keep the ball.

This makes it easy to see why Brown is such a big fan of the 28-year-old and why he hopes he stays at the club beyond this summer.
