Report: Club director loves £50m Liverpool player; he's now met agents about major summer transfer

Liverpool are going into a new era with Arne Slot at the helm and one of the key players from last season is being pursued by one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Slot is due to take over from Jurgen Klopp and will be keen to get to work with the players currently in the squad, as well as those he brings in.

Of course, Slot will also need to manage things in terms of outgoings and there are a number of Liverpool players who face uncertain futures.

The likes of Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold have all yet to sign new deals.

However, one man who could be on his way out sooner than that trio is winger, Luis Diaz.

Barcelona are thought to be keen on him and according to reports from Spain, their sporting director, Deco, really loves him.

Deco really wants Luis Diaz at Barcelona after meeting with agents

According to a report from AS, former Chelsea midfielder Deco is a big fan of Diaz and is behind the club pushing to sign him.

It’s claimed that in recent weeks Deco has even met up with the agents of Diaz to discuss a move to Barcelona this summer.

Deco is believed to be looking to overhaul a few positions and sees Diaz as the ideal wide man to come if the Catalan club decide to move on from Raphinha.

Liverpool, meanwhile, are believed to want to keep their £50m signing around if they can.

But with Diaz’s father recently speaking highly of Barca, this is a rumour that won’t go away just yet.

Diaz should give Arne Slot a chance

While the idea of playing for a club you’ve admired as a young boy is something nobody can take away from Luis Diaz, there is a big opportunity in front of him at Liverpool right now.

With Arne Slot coming in and Mo Salah likely to move on this or next summer, Diaz could very much end up being the main man at Liverpool.

A move to Barcelona would be massive for him as we know. But with the Spanish side in such a mess financially, he’s also at risk of just becoming another part of the machine.

At Liverpool, the fans already love him and given how Slot sets his teams up, Diaz should thrive.
