'Incredible': Wayne Rooney blown away by £47m Manchester United player at Wembley today

It was Manchester United’s day at Wembley today as they managed to see off Manchester City for a memorable FA Cup win.

The Red Devils produced a brilliant first 45 minutes to 2-0 up through Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho and then held firm in the second half to see things out.

For manager Erik ten Hag, it could end up being the perfect send off. There remains talk he will be sacked regardless of the result today, but the Dutchman will be delighted with the win regardless.

Of course, today was a day when some of United’s big names played well and turned up, none more so than captain, Bruno Fernandes.

And commenting on Fernandes’ role in the second United goal, former striker Wayne Rooney was seriously impressed.

Wayne Rooney lauds Bruno Fernandes for what he did in the FA Cup final

Speaking on the BBC analysing the United performance at half-time, Rooney lauded the second goal and in particular, the role of Bruno Fernandes.

“I think they’ve been brilliant. Organised, hard to play through, hard to play around,” Rooney said at half-time.

“The threats have been coming from the wide areas, obviously [Marcus] Rashford and [Alejandro] Garnacho and the two goals, obviously a mistake for the first goal but really good run from Garnacho.

“The second goal is an unbelievable goal. The pass from Bruno [Fernandes] is incredible.”

Fernandes has shown his worth

There is no doubt that this Manchester United team has struggled at times this season.

The performances have been inconsistent and the individual displays of certain players have left a lot to be desired.

However, one constant in terms of good performance levels has been Fernandes.

The £47m signing has been the player United have often turned to to produce and today he came up with something not many players on the pitch can do.

Fernandes, then, has shown his class and worth to the United cause and will be key next season, regardless of who is in charge.
