After signing Dier, Bayern also discussed buying 'outstanding' Tottenham defender in January - journalist

Bayern Munich held ‘casual’ talks over signing another Tottenham Hotspur player after landing Eric Dier in January.

Eric Dier became the second player to switch Tottenham for Munich last season when he completed a switch to the Allianz Arena.

The 30-year-old followed Harry Kane to the Bundesliga and has enjoyed an impressive few months in Germany. Dier had found himself out of favour under Ange Postecoglou after featuring just four times before his departure.

Following Dier and Kane’s surprise reunion in Munich, another Spurs player in Emerson Royal has been linked with a shock move to Bayern.

And while journalist Florian Plettenberg claims Royal isn’t a ‘hot topic’ for Bayern right now, it would appear he was discussed by the club back in January.

Bayern discussed Emerson Royal move after signing Dier

Plettenberg took to X and shared an update on Royal after claims Bayern are interested in the Brazilian.

He wrote: “Rumours about Emerson Royal and FC Bayern: There was some casual discussion about him in January when Bayern was looking for a right-back. That’s all.

“Currently, the 25-year-old from Tottenham is not a hot topic of interest at Bayern, and there’s no need for a player in that position right now.”

Royal could be sold this summer

Despite proving to be a useful option for Postecoglou this term, Royal’s days at Spurs may be numbered.

The 25-year-old has filled in across the backline this term when Tottenham’s starters have been unavailable. But Royal just doesn’t seem suited to Postecoglou’s demands of his inverted full-backs.

Fabrizio Romano has already stated that he expects the ‘outstanding’ Brazilian to move on this summer, with Tottenham looking at bolstering their options in defence.

Spurs academy product Kyle Walker-Peters has been linked with a return to north London. The 27-year-old is capable of playing both full-back positions, making him an excellent option to cover for Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie.
