‘We will see’… £15m defender opens up on his future ahead of the summer with Tottenham interested

Tottenham Hotspur have now seen one of their summer targets speak out on his future with the transfer window weeks away from opening.

A busy summer of deals awaits Tottenham with Ange Postecoglou‘s project set to see the latest instalment of comings and goings from Hotspur Way.

Multiple areas in the Spurs squad need adding to over the coming months with Postecoglou already admitting as much.

Defence is an area which is of interest to the Australian as he looks ahead of the transfer window having already said he wants to add to his options.

This comes after Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin arrived at the club this season following the exits of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.

One defender who is believed to be on Tottenham’s radar has now spoken about what could lie ahead for him in the coming months.

Tottenham have interest in Middlesbrough’s Rav van den Berg

The Spurs News understands the north London club are looking at Middlesbrough’s Rav van den Berg as a potential option at centre-back.

Under the watch of former Spurs midfielder Michael Carrick, the £15m-rated Van den Berg has seriously impressed in the Championship this season.

A number of clubs are believed to have their eyes on the Dutchman and that has been the case for a number of years now.

And he has now opened up on what may lie ahead for him over the coming months with speculation gathering over his future.

Speaking to The Northern Echo, Van den Berg has admitted that it is often the case the player’s future is decided by their club.

“Sometimes it is not always just your own decision. I don’t feel I have any reason to leave here. But you never know in football, is the only thing I can say. It’s not always fully the player’s decision,” he said.

“But I am really happy right now and we will see what the summer brings. I’m really at home here, the dressing room is a really close place to be which is really important. If we all stick around next year, I believe we can have a really good year.”

Rav van den Berg may have big decision with Premier League interest

This season, only injury and suspension saw Postecoglou rotate his defence with Cristian Romero and Van de Ven forming a solid partnership.

However, the demand to go further in the domestic cup competitions and European qualification means rotation will be huge for Tottenham’s success.

Dragusin and whoever comes in as the fourth-choice centre-back is, therefore, expected to get more game time next term than what was available this season.

Van den Berg may have claimed he was incredibly happy on Teeside, but if Tottenham were to come knocking and Europa League football could be on offer, that leaves him with a big decision to make.

He would be unlikely to be playing week in and week out like he is at Boro, however, with Tottenham’s recent injury record that can’t be ruled out.
