Aston Villa should be all over deal to sign 'great passer' who's just like Ilkay Gundogan - Opinion

As the transfer window approaches, Aston Villa will be keen to get busy and now they’ve been linked with one player who’d be an excellent signing.

With Champions League qualification in the bag for Aston Villa, fans are expecting a summer of transfers worthy of the prestigious competition.

This will see the club and Unai Emery keen to keep hold of the current star players at the club, and maintain the status of the club in Europe’s premier competition and make sure it isn’t a one-off such as Newcastle in 2023-24.

Already, Villa are making moves in the market, with one target being offered a three-year contract to join the club this summer. But the Villians have now been linked with another who’d be an excellent addition.

Aston Villa are in for PSG’s Carlos Soler

The player that Villa have just been linked with is Spanish talent Carlos Soler who currently plays for PSG.

However, according to a report by Foot Mercato, this could end this summer despite the player himself not being keen to depart, which could leave a loan as the ideal option.

It’s then added that Aston Villa are one of many clubs which have already come forward to sign the PSG No. 28. Villa have asked for information, but the deal hasn’t moved any further forward.

Villa will have competition, with Villarreal and Real Sociedad also keen on taking the Spaniard back to La Liga next season.

This is a deal which could be wise from Villa as he’s a super talent. So they should be all over it.

Unai Emery would love Carlos Soler

Soler is a player who before Emery, Villa wouldn’t have even tried to sign, but now a Champions League club, there’s every chance he could be an option.

A midfielder who can play as an attacking midfielder, Soler is perfect for the system under Emery and could slot in right behind Watkins or even further back.

Compared with Ilkay Gundogan by FBRef on their ‘similar players’ list, Soler is a ‘great passer‘ with excellent dribbling and is capable of scoring too.

He’d be a fantastic pickup for Villa ahead of next season and his versatility is another huge bonus, as Soler not only plays midfield but also is capable of playing wide on the right.

Due to Soler not being a natural in defensive positions, it’s unlikely he’d work in the pivot, but further forward he could be an excellent replacement for Nicolo Zaniolo as the Italian looks likely to leave this summer.
