'I think': Jason Cundy claims £50m Chelsea player must get better at these two things next season

Jason Cundy has singled out one Chelsea player and claimed that he needs to improve the attacking side of his game next season.

As it stands, Chelsea’s squad is in the same boat as the supporters, patiently waiting to see who becomes the next head coach at Stamford Bridge.

Mauricio Pochettino’s departure by mutual consent has led to the Blues search this week for a new manager. Incidentally, the next man in the dugout will have the European Conference League to balance next season alongside domestic duties after Manchester United’s win in the FA Cup snatched them the Europa League spot.

Jason Cundy tells Chelsea star to improve offensively

TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy has suggested that Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher is the individual that can do more with his game in the final third.

In fairness, the 24-year-old box-to-box midfielder was one of his side’s best players this season.

While he could sharpen up his general play going forward, he still contributed a decent return of seven goals and nine assists across all competitions. It helped that he played a large chunk in a No 10 position as the most advanced central midfielder.

“Does he score enough goals? Does he create enough? They are the two things I think Conor has to work on his game. In the final third, be a little bit more productive in terms of goals,” Cundy told talkSPORT.

Compared to the 2022/23 season, Gallagher did take big strides forward as an attacking threat in the 2023/24 campaign. The England international is someone improving and growing as a player.

Here below are Gallagher’s Chelsea statistics from the last two years:

Will Conor Gallagher still be a Chelsea player next season?

Let’s hope Gallagher becomes an even greater threat as a goalscoring midfielder next season, but will the Chelsea academy graduate still be playing for the Blues?

The Evening Standard recently claimed that Chelsea are willing to listen to offers for both Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah this summer. Apparently, it’s quite an unpopular decision with the rest of their teammates in the squad.

According to The Telegraph, Aston Villa and Tottenham are interested in signing £50m-rated Gallagher.

The Chelsea Chronicle’s hope is that Gallagher stays at Stamford Bridge and signs a new deal. It’s worrying to read the speculation in the transfer rumour mill, though.

Even if he’s not scoring or assisting big numbers, his all-round game on and off the ball makes him so vital to the side.
