Liverpool make forceful transfer decision as Barcelona approach Reds star

A round-up of the latest Liverpool news as FC Barcelona contact an Anfield star about moving to Camp Nou and the Reds identify one dream teammate for Jarell Quansah.

Liverpool have ‘forcefully’ entered the race for Leny Yoro’s transfer

Liverpool have ‘forcefully’ joined Manchester United and Real Madrid in the transfer race for LOSC Lille wonderkid Leny Yoro. That is according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who claims that the Reds will make a great effort to sign the centre-half whom Paris Saint-Germain dream about.

PSG have pushed for Yoro’s arrival in the French capital for some time but Lille have rebuffed their Ligue 1 rival’s advances. Yoro has also not accepted a move to the Parc des Princes. So, Liverpool have now forcefully entered to the race for one of Europe’s most in-demand gems.

The 18-year-old has put Europe’s elite clubs on notice after playing a key role in Les Dogues’ efforts this season. He featured in 44 games and offered three goals. Yoro even took Lille into the Europa Conference League quarter-finals, before losing to Aston Villa on penalties.

Barcelona contact Thiago Alcantara about joining Hansi Flick’s coaching staff

FC Barcelona have now contacted Thiago Alcantara to discuss a return to Camp Nou for the departing Liverpool star. But AS reports the Blaugrana have approached the midfielder with a role in Hansi Flick’s potential coaching staff in mind as they bid to replace Xavi Hernandez.

Xavi will leave Camp Nou at the end of the season after president Joan Laporta sacked their club legend on Friday. He initially resigned in January with a summer departure planned, yet Laporta convinced him to stay in April. Now, Flick is in line to take over Barcelona’s hot seat.

Blaugrana sporting director Deco has even identified Thiago, Javi Martinez and Marc Bartra as potential assistant coaches for Flick. Barcelona want a player who is closing in on the end of their career and can speak Spanish and German to aid the ex-Bayern Munich head coach.

Deco’s first phone call was to Thiago as the 33-year-old will leave Liverpool at the end of his contract on June 30. The midfielder also played for Flick at the Allianz Arena and Deco feels he has the perfect profile to be an assistant coach. But Barcelona doubt Thiago will say yes.

Staff in Liverpool’s academy believe Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite can be a dream partner for Jarell Quansah. That is according to Theo Squires, who has noted that the Reds’ staff think they could be England’s future as the defenders complement each other ‘so well’.

Gareth Southgate has named Quansah in a senior England squad for the first time with their provisional 33-man Euro 2024 squad. He will now look to seal a spot at this summer’s UEFA tournament in the Three Lions’ friendlies with Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland this June.

Branthwaite is also in Southgate’s provisional squad, marking his second inclusion following England’s March friendlies. But the 21-year-old failed to feature against Brazil or Belgium. It also came as a welcome reward after becoming a key part of Everton’s backline this season.
