Man City livewire Jeremy Doku now sends 14-word message after FA Cup final defeat to Man United

Jeremy Doku has sent a message on Instagram, after Manchester City lost the FA Cup final to Manchester United on Saturday.

City could not follow up their Premier League title in the final at Wembley, with United exacting revenge for last year in the capital.

Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo got the goals for Erik ten Hag’s side, with City unfortunately turning in one of their worst performances all season.

Too many players simply did not turn up for City which was disappointing.

But fans cannot be too upset having watched the side win the UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup and Premier League.

After yesterday’s defeat, winger Jeremy Doku took to social media to send a message to Manchester City fans…

City came up way short against United at Wembley, with defensive sloppiness proving costly.

United took the lead through Garnacho, after a mix-up between Josko Gvardiol and Stefan Ortega – two of City’s most in-form players over the last few weeks.

United then carved through City with a good counter-attack that was finished off by Mainoo, as multiple City players ambled back.

The performance was disappointing, but one man who stood out for City was Jeremy Doku – who came on as a substitute at half-time, replacing Mateo Kovacic.

The Belgian was a constant threat out of the wing. City players looked for him at every opportunity and in the 87th minute, he deservedly got himself on the scoresheet, firing in from the edge of the box.

Andre Onana might have done better, but it was a decent strike nonetheless from Doku, who Alan Shearer felt ‘certainly made a difference with the way he has stretched Manchester United’.

The livewire has come in for plaudits since Saturday’s game, and in the evening he sent a message to fans after his lively showing. He said: “Grateful for this team and the support from the fans. We will be back.”

Doku can hold his head high

City were highly disappointing at Wembley this time around, but Doku can most definitely hold his head high for his performance.

He was easily City’s best player on the day, and gave Aaron Wan-Bissaka plenty to think about after he came on. And clearly, Doku’s teammates sensed he was a huge threat given the amount of times they passed him the ball.

He took his goal well, taking his final tally to seven for the season, along with 10 assists.

17 involvements in 45 appearances constitutes a pretty solid first season for Doku, who is still only 21 years old. The livewire is far from being the finished article, but the early signs have been good so far and hopefully, he will be able to build on those numbers next season.
