'Each year': Kyle Walker has now made a claim about Arsenal challenging Manchester City

Kyle Walker has made a claim about Arsenal challenging Manchester City two seasons in a row now.

During the 2022/2023 Premier League season, Arsenal finished five points behind City in the title race in second place.

This season, Mikel Arteta’s side were just two points shy of Manchester City, as their 20-year drought without a league title continues.

Walker makes big claim about Arsenal challenging Manchester City

The Spaniard’s project at the club is getting better and better, with his side getting knocked out of the quarter-finals of the Champions League upon their return to the competition.

It seems inevitable that sooner rather than later, Arteta will lead them to a title triumph.

Recently, Bernardo Silva revealed that he thinks the Gunners will continue to compete with City for the league title.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Manchester City captain Kyle Walker also stated that he takes the challenge posed by Arsenal seriously.

“I think what the manager [Pep Guardiola] said after the interview on Sky the other day when he said, we’ve got the message and we hear it loud and clear and for him to say that, he knows Arsenal are on our heels now.”

Notably, Kyle Walker also admitted that the gap between Manchester City and Arsenal at the top is decreasing.

“Either we need to up our game a little more or Arsenal need to fall off a little bit but the gap’s getting closer each year, it’s getting closer and we need to probably extend that gap to give ourselves a little bit of breathing space.”

“But that’s down to the manager, the club, the organisation, who they feel is the right person to bring in, not bring in, whatever they want to do to make sure that we extend that gap would be much appreciated.”

City’s number two joked: “So, Pep [Guardiola], please help.”

Kyle Walker must drill his message into his teammates

In our view, as Manchester City skipper, Kyle Walker must drill his message into his teammates about the threat Arsenal pose.

The North London side are improving season after season and with how young their squad is, their potential as a team is limitless.

At 42 years of age, Mikel Arteta is also quite young as a manager and even so, he is one of the best in the business.

As a result, Walker’s mentality of trying to extend the gap between the two clubs must be taken on board by his teammates.

Arsenal do not look like they are ready to rest on their laurels anytime soon.

If the Manchester City players, including Kyle Walker, go on to take Arsenal lightly as a title challenger, they could have a humbling in store for them.

But with City being a club full of winners, they will try their best to ensure their standards as a team do not slip.
