Goalkeeper who rejected £8m Nottingham Forest move now set for Champions League move - Romano

Nottingham Forest tried to sign Michele Di Gregorio last summer and now he’s set for a huge move.

The Reds were extremely haphazard when it came to picking new goalkeepers in the summer of 2023.

Everyone can use a hefty dose of hindsight with transfers but neither Matt Turner or Odysseas Vlachodimos made much of an impact.

Turner produced error after error before eventually losing his place and Vlachodimos made just five Premier League appearances.

Di Gregorio was one playerForest bid £8 million for but he instead chose to sign a new deal with Monza.

Nottingham Forest linked Michele Di Gregorio set for Juventus move

This now officially feels like one that got away from Forest.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Di Gregorio will sign for Juventus in a deal worth an initial £18 million to Monza.

The goalkeeper made 34 appearances during the 2023/24 campaign and managed to keep 14 clean sheets for the team.

Now, his form has alerted Juventus who are set to complete this season ahead of next season.

Di Gregorio has made 144 appearances for Monzo in total and was on the books of Inter as a youngster.

Forest need another goalkeeper this summer

It seems completely feasible that Forest could offload Turner and Vlachodimos this summer.

The Greece number one has already been linked with Augsburg and it feels as though offloading him could be straightforward.

Sels did a wonderful job last season and it would be no issue if he was the number one next season.

However, if Turner and Vlachodimos do leave, Forest will definitely need another option to come into the club.

Di Gregorio was the subject of an £8 million bid from Forest last summer – and the club were dead set on signing him.

However, the stopper chose to persist with Monza and in turn he signed a new deal with his existing club.

Now, he’s one for the recruitment team to scrub off their list as Forest scours for some proper competition for Sels.
