'Soon we will know': Romano says 'genius' who could become Chelsea manager has release clause less than £8.5m

Chelsea are still in the process of hiring a new manager following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure from the club.

It came as quite a surprise when Todd Boehly opted to part ways with Pochettino considering how well his side ended the season.

The West Londoners ended the campaign in sixth, winning four games on the bounce and it seemed everything was starting to gell.

But Chelsea have hit the reset button and Romano has provided an update on their search for a new manager.

Roberto De Zerbi has release clause less than £8.5m

Roberto De Zerbi has been linked with the vacant managerial position at Chelsea following his Brighton and Hove Albion exit. Romano has provided the latest update on the Italian head coach.

“Soon we will know what will happen with Roberto De Zerbi – there is now a different release clause for less than 10m euros,” Romano said.

That equates to around £8.5m, so it’s a feasible fee to outlay for Chelsea, who must remain wary of Financial Fair Play regulations.

Roberto De Zerbi is the right fit for Chelsea

De Zerbi, who Adam Lallana described as a ‘genius’, would be a great fit for Chelsea, as he also places great emphasis on developing young players – as evidenced by Moises Caicedo and Levi Colwill, both of whom are now at Chelsea.

Further, he is a young coach who plays attractive football and that is a trait Boehly has been after in this manager search.

Paul Winstanley, who was at Brighton, is also Chelsea’s co-sporting director and briefly worked with De Zerbi at the Seagulls.

It seems the Italian ticks a lot of the boxes.
