Report: EFL club place man sacked by Nottingham Forest in 2023 on shortlist with Frank Lampard

An EFL club are keen to make Steve Cooper their new manager after his sacking from Nottingham Forest in December.

The 44-year-old has been out of work since and last week it was claimed thatCooper had turned down Norwich.

Now, another club in the Championship are keen to test the water and tempt Cooper back into management.

The Welshman defied the odds with Forest, taking the club from the bottom of the second tier to the Premier League in a matter of months.

Now, he’s set to be a wanted man this summer and could have a decision to make in the coming weeks.

Burnley want to appoint Steve Cooper as Vincent Kompany replacement

This news comes from The Sun on Sunday and it shares details of the shortlist that Burnley have now compiled.

Cooper has been included for the work he did at Forest, with ex-Derby boss Frank Lampard also in the running.

The man who guided Swansea to the Championship play-off final has been waiting patiently for another opportunity.

He was dismissed by Forest in December following an alarming run of form that saw the Reds edge close to the bottom three.

It wasn’t the first time Cooper had overseen bad form since Forest returned to the Premier League and he was given ample time by Evangelos Marinakis.

Cooper might have to accept EFL position to return to work after Forest

Despite some people believing he’d walk into another Premier League job, things haven’t been easy for Cooper since leaving Forest.

The former Reds incumbent hasn’t had too many offers to return to work and he might have to take a Championship position.

Cooper probably wouldn’t be afraid to do that and Burnley could throw up an interesting opportunity.

Most of the current squad were in place when the Clarets won the Championship at a canter in 2022/23 and that should help their fortunes next season.

Furthermore, Burnley should have money to spend and Cooper would be able to shape the squad how he saw fit.

Forest have moved on from Cooper and perhaps now it’s time for the head coach to do the same and get back to work.
