Film star's unspeakable tragedy when 4 family members died in safari adventure accident

Helena Bonham Carter suffered an incredible tragedy that most of us could not begin to imagine, when four of her family members died while on a safari adventure.

The movie star, who has graced our screens in iconic roles such as Harry Potter, Fight Club and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, is honored for her ability to transform into any character from the script, no matter the context. Whether it’s fantasy like Alice in Wonderland or musical horror Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, she has no limits. But the celebrity faced a horror in her own life away from the cameras, when four of Helena Bonham Carter’s family members died in a Safari adventure accident back in 2008.

Members of her family were driving across the Savannah, from Botswana to the Madikwe Game Reserve, in South Africa when the accident took place.

The VW Kombi they were travelling in, flipped off the road, as some of Helena Bonham Carter’s relatives were flown from the safari vehicle.

Her cousin, Graham, explained four family members were tragically killed when the minibus veered off the road. His stepfather, Mr Francis Kirkwood, was driving when tragedy struck, and sadly, didn’t make it either.

Mr Kirkwood lost control of the minibus after it struck broken glass while driving at 75mph, and the back tire burst.

Seven of the family members were travelling at the time in the remote area of the African bush, and five of them were thrown out during the accident, with four sadly losing their lives.

Friends of the Oscar-winning star said the incident was an ‘appalling tragedy’ when headlines hit the news later.

Movie star hasn’t spoken out about the incident

Usually keeping her private life out of the spotlight, Helena Bonham Carter hasn’t often spoken about the tragedy of her extended family dying on the safari.

One of those who sadly died, was 14-year-old Eton pupil Marcus Egerton-Warburton, with his school friends sharing tributes and a memorial online for him when they heard the news.

One friend wrote: “Can’t put into words how much I will miss you. You are an amazing person, you will never be forgotten. R.I.P marci xxx.”

And another said: “I can’t believe it. I just can’t believe it. One of the nicest guys in Eton. Will always miss you Markie boy. Love you forever.”

Graham’s mother Brenda, wife Kay, and stepfather Francis Kirkwood were also victim to the crash. His nephew, Piers Egerton-Warburton and his mother, Fiona, were thrown from the car but survived with broken bones and neck injuries.
