Report: After Ross Barkley move, Aston Villa have now made contact about signing £15m player as well

After making a move to sign Ross Barkley, Aston Villa have now enquired about signing another midfielder as well.

The Villans are on the hunt for reinforcements to pad out Unai Emery‘s squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, in which UEFA Champions League football returns to Villa Park.

Now, contact has been made by Aston Villa to sign a player who boasts plenty of UEFA Champions League experience…

Aston Villa make Carlos Soler move

A story by Foot Mercato in France now claims that Aston Villa have enquired about PSG No.28 Carlos Soler.

The French news outlet believe PSG want to sell the Spain international – who has made 19 appearances in the UEFA Champions League – although he would prefer to stay in Paris.

However, Foot Mercato state that a loan deal could materialise, with Emery keen to bring his fellow Spaniard – who cost PSG €18m (£15m) – to the Midlands.

It comes after the Guardian claimed that a move to bring Barkley back to Villa Park was also close to completion, with Alan Nixon adding that a contract until 2027 has been offered.

Soler made 28 appearances for PSG in the 2023/24 campaign, scoring two goals while also providing four assists.

The man from Valencia – who has been compared to David Silva – mainly operates in central midfield, although he did make five appearances on the right of defence last season and two on the left, so he is a versatile option.

TBR Football understand the 52-year-old is also keen to bring Mario Hermoso to Villa Park on a free transfer, as the Spain international is about to see his contract with Atletico Madrid expire.

The transfer window doesn’t even officially open until Friday 14th June, although as you can see, Aston Villa are wasting no time in lining up targets ahead of what is set to be a busy 2024/25 campaign.
