Report: Manchester United will move for £60m-rated PL defender if they can't sign Jarrad Branthwaite

Manchester United have a backup target to Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, according to a recent report.

Erik ten Hag guided Man United to FA Cup glory on Saturday afternoon, defeating fierce rivals Manchester City 2-1.

Though, that hasn’t stopped speculation around his future, as many reports suggest he could be moved on by INEOS.

That said, it seems transfer business is still being conducted behind the scenes, as the latest rumour links them to a £60m-rated centre-back.

Manchester United eye Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi

According to GiveMeSport, Manchester United will move for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi if they are unable to strike a deal with Everton for priority target Jarrad Branthwaite.

The left-footed Everton man is the one they’re after, though, that deal could require £80m to be outlaid, which seems unrealistic for United.

So, Guehi is thought to be the alternative target after another stellar season for Palace.

Wolves’ Max Kilman has also been added to United’s shortlist.

Manchester United should try to sign Marc Guehi

United should focus their attempts on trying to land the cheaper alternative in Guehi, who many would argue is slightly ahead of Branthwaite in his development.

The 23-year-old has just shy of a century of Premier League appearances under his belt and is more the proven of the two.

Further, moving for Guehi would allow more funds to be outlaid elsewhere.
