Republican Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders caught flak on Sunday after appearing at a NASCAR event in North Carolina while deadly tornadoes are sweeping through her own state.
Sanders, who was recently criticized for "unethical behavior" while employed by Donald Trump's White House that was exposed during the former president's criminal trial, posted on social media on Sunday that her constituents should be concerned about the severe weather systems. In her state alone, at least five people were killed in the storm, according to recent reports.
"I declared a state of emergency to support the communities affected by last night’s severe weather and tornadoes. We remain in close contact with local officials and will continue to do everything possible to help each Arkansan in need," she said on X, formerly Twitter. "Arkansas is again at risk for severe weather tonight. Please follow all guidance from local officials and track reports in your area."

@emzorbit agreed.
"Maybe instead of focusing on your *next* job, you could do the one you currently have," the account wrote.
Sanders didn't announce her NASCAR attendance on X, but she made an appearance on social media despite that.
"I was proud to join my friend Governor [Sanders] at a [Coca Cola 600] event today honoring our courageous Gold Star Families," wrote Rep. Richard Hudson on Sunday. "We owe so much to our Gold Star Families, and will always ensure the memories of America’s fallen heroes are never forgotten."
The smiling photo of Sanders was shared by popular account @thetrueshelby, which wrote, "Gurl, you lost???"
"Eight people killed in tornadoes this morning and Huckaf--- is in NC. That article was right. Sarah is a 'Governor that doesn’t have much interest in governing.'"
@thetrueshlby also noted that Sanders eventually made it back to her home state for a media event.
"She just got back in Arkansas and showed up for a press conference in the same f------ shorts. I s--- you not."
