'Led to believe': Journalist drops Sheffield Wednesday transfer update, Rohl 'desperate' to do one thing

Dejphon Chansiri’s stance on Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer business has emerged.

Sheffield Wednesday are approaching the summer transfer window after managing to avoid relegation to League One.

There is a lot of pressure on the club to get this right as Danny Rohl looks to guide the Owls to a top-half finish for the first time in six years.

The German coach put pen to paper on a new contract last week and has given fans plenty of hope that he will now be given the funds needed to add to the squad.

It was previously reported that Wednesday could still focus on free transfers and loan deals, with bringing back the likes of Ike Ugbo, James Beadle and Ian Poveda.

Danny Rohl preparing to make permanent signings

While Rohl’s new deal will definitelygive them an advantage in re-signing their former loanees, it has now been claimed that he will also be given cash to buy players too.

Journalist Joe Crann wrote on X: “Led to believe that transfer fees will be available to Danny Röhl over the summer if the deal is deemed right, each deal will be judged case by case… No specific budget has been set, but he’s not been told just frees/loans for example.”

Crann also added in The Star: “Röhl is keen to get his work done early, and is desperate to make some key additions to his ranks at Middlewood Road, and The Star understands that there will be transfer fees available should those in charge feel like it’s the right move for the club going forward.”

Can Sheffield Wednesday compete financially?

Sheffield Wednesday will do some great business if they are able to bring back Beadle, Poveda and Ugbo.

However, they simply can’t continue to rely on free transfers and loan deals, so if they can get a few permanent signings over the line, then that will really benefit them in the long-term.

The Owls are still going to struggle to compete financially with many Championship clubs though, so they will have to be very smart with their transfer business.

Danny Rohl’s presence should give them a huge boost. Given his success last term, there will surely be plenty of players eager to work alongside him.

The German can also look back to his home country to pick up any bargain deals, as there is no doubt that buying from the Championship will only force them to pay inflated prices.

It certainly feels like fans can rely on the manager and the club to make correct decisions this summer, while there have been plenty of question marks in previous windows.
