Rangers medical set as fans gear up for special summer glimpse of new £2m+ signing - report

As Rangers lick their Scottish Cup wounds, news that Jose Cordoba is jetting in for a medical is sure to lift the Blues.

The Ibrox side had a brief moment of inspiration this season when Philippe Clement’s team hauled themselves back into the Premiership title race.

But treble hopes turned to Celtic disaster as our Old Firm rivals matched our world record trophy haul at Hampden.

Now, attentions turn to how Rangers can halt Celtic perhaps permanently overtaking them with this transfer window very much expected to be a big one.

And now the club look to be closing in on the second signing of what will be a crucial few months in the legacy of Rangers Football Club.

Cordoba jets in for Rangers medical

Jose Cordoba, Levski Sofia’s 22-year-old Panamanian centre-back, looks set to become the club’s second signing of the summer.

It all comes down to medical for the defender with a report in Bulgarian publication Top Sport claiming Rangers are all set to conduct such an examination this week.

The report states that the medical is currently scheduled for Monday (27/05) or Tuesday (28/05) with Rangers holding off late interest from Norwich in the centre-back.

It’s believed Rangers are ready to push through the medical and a £2m rising to £3.2m deal for Cordoba ahead of this summer’s World Cup Qualifiers and Copa America.

Jose Cordoba is expected to be a starter at the tournament in the USA and it will be a good chance for Rangers supporters to get an early glimpse of the defender.

Whilst the Copa America doesn’t kick off until late June, Panama have a double header of World Cup Qualifiers against Guyana (H) and Monserrat (A) coming up next week as part of a busy summer schedule for the centre-back.

Rangers transfer business ramps up

There is no time to waste for Rangers as the club look to rebuild ahead of next season.

Whilst the 23/24 campaign ended in bitter disappointment attentions have quickly shifted to how the club will handle the early gauntlet of Champions League qualification.

Rangers could well do with the millions which come with reaching the Group Stage and Philippe Clement is tasked with bringing a team together who can deliver in the early part of the season.

With Brazilian left-back Jefte already in the door, it’s the first signing of several expected with the likes of back-up goalkeeper Liam Kelly also widely reported to be closing in on a move.

But the deal for Jose Cordoba has turned heads as Rangers get ready to sign a contract with a player local journalists claim was interesting ‘half of Europe’.

According to reports in Bulgaria, the medical is now imminent and we can expect news on Jose Cordoba’s switch to Rangers in the coming days.
