'Keep an eye on': Liverpool could 'definitely' be looking to raid Feyenoord again this summer - journalist

Liverpool’s post-Jurgen Klopp plans are beginning to take shape, as Arne Slot prepares to arrive from Feyenoord.

With Slot’s contract set to take effect from June 1st, Liverpool fans only have to wait a few more days to see their new boss in the flesh.

And wile the Dutch coach gets his feet under the table at the AXA Training Centre, the Reds are working to get his team set up around him.

Throughout Klopp’s tenure, the Liverpool coaching team was one of the major reasons for Liverpool’s success. The likes of Pep Lijnders will be hard to replace.

Someone else who is going to need to be substituted is John Achterberg, who spent 15 years at Anfield. And according to journalist David Lynch, Liverpool could be looking to Feyenoord once again.

Liverpool looking for Feyenoord raid

There is due to be some major surgery in the Liverpool goalkeeping department this summer. Along with Achterberg, assistant goalkeeping coach Jack Robinson has also left the club.

With speculation surrounding the future of Caoimhin Kelleher as well as third-choice ‘keeper Adrian, Liverpool are in danger of needing a whole new group.

Thankfully, Alisson Becker looks set to stay despite interest from Saudi Arabia, while Brazilian coach Claudio Taffarel is also going nowhere.

Speaking to Anfield Index though, journalist Lynch says that Taffarel will not be the only one working day-to-day with Alisson and co. Liverpool are actively looking for a new starter, with Feyenoord’s Jyri Nieminen being looked at.

“It’s been put to me, I spoke to people this week who said they’re definitely on the hunt for another goalkeeper coach, that’s definitely the ideal situation,” Lynch says.

“I’d be interested to see who that is, I don’t think it’s going go back to being a three-man goalkeeping department. I think it’ll be Taffarel and one more. It’ll be interesting to see who it is.

“I believe there’s some potential interest around Jyri Nieminen at Feyenoord. He has a lot of qualities from people you speak to that would really make him a good fit to come to a club like Liverpool and he’s been a good fit with Slot before in terms of the type of football they want the goalkeeper to play. So, that’s one to keep an eye on.”

Who is Jyri Nieminen?

It has previously been claimed that Feyenoord would put the kibosh on Slot trying to take too many of his existing staff with him to Liverpool.

With assistant Sipke Hulshoff and two more already heading to Merseyside, a fourth might be stretching it.

Nevertheless, it would obviously make sense for Nieminen to come with his boss and start afresh in Liverpool.

Despite being just 36, the Finnish coach has plenty of experience. He’s already taken on roles in Finland, Estonia, Qatar, USA and now the Netherlands.

At Feyenoord since 2023, Nieminen has obviously made an impression on Slot and with Liverpool having a position open, this one lines up.
