GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The Florida Gators are adding Beyah Rasool to their football staff, Gators Online has confirmed. Rasool will join the Gators in an off-field role as an analyst. Matt Zenitz was the first to report the news.
Rasool joined Scot Loeffler’s staff at Bowling Green as cornerbacks coach and special teams assistant on March 21, 2023. Rasool was only in Bowling Green for a season but BGSU saw improvement across the board in its secondary.
The Falcons finished the year No. 4 in the nation with 17 interceptions and led the nation in takeaways (28). BGSU’s starting cornerbacks Jordan Oladokun and Jalen Huskey both finished the year tied for No. 19 in the nation with four interceptions. The Gators finished the 2023 season ranked last in the country with just three interceptions forced.
Huskey was a first-team All-MAC performer and Oladokun earned second-team honors. Davon Ferguson earned third-team All-MAC accolades. The BGSU defense in 2023 finished No. 25 in the nation in total defense (326.1) and No. 12 in the nation in passing yards allowed (179.8).
Prior to his year at Bowling Green, Rasool spent two years with the Arizona Wildcats as a senior defensive analyst.
While the Gators’ current on-field coaching staff is full, the NCAA Oversight Committee has discussed removing the limit of on-field coaches. Speaking to media before a Gator Club speaking tour, Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier said that initiative would be on his mind as the SEC meets this week in Destin for its spring meetings.
“I do think it’s beneficial. We have a lot of people in our building that will immediately be able to impact our team. And look I think the reality is depending on what campus you visit and what day it is some of those people are already coaching, you know, I think, it depends on who runs your compliance and how often they are around. I think it will be healthy,” Napier said. “I think it will allow a little bit better pace to do the job, you know, these guys not only coach their position, they evaluate their position, they recruit their position, and then they have to develop great relationships and those relationships are tested more than they used to be tested because of the transfer portal, so there’s more on the plate and with more attrition, there’s more evaluation and more recruitment, so I think the workload of the assistant coach has been probably three to four times as much work as in the past and I think having quality second-tier people at each position, distributing that workload from an evaluation, recruitment relationship, teaching development, that’s going to benefit the quality of life of the staff members.”
