Heung-min Son and Micky van de Ven react after Pedro Porro left out of Spain Euro 2024 squad

Tottenham Hotspur players have been reacting to hearing the news of Pedro Porro’s omission from Spain’s Euro 2024 squad.

A solid season is in the books for Pedro Porro at Tottenham as he marked his first full campaign in the Premier League.

It could very easily have been a season that may have provided Porro with some issued considering he was bought as a right wing-back for Antonio Conte.

However, he has adapted to his new life under Ange Postecoglou extremely well and has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top right-backs.

The Spaniard looked set for a busy summer away with his national side at this summer’s Euros, however, on Monday, it was announced he had not made Luis de la Fuente’s provisional squad.

With the right-back receiving the news just days after the end of the campaign, Heung-min Son and Micky van de Ven provided him with some words of encouragement.

Pedro Porro misses out on Spain Euro 2024 squad call-up

Over the course of the 2023/24 campaign, Porro has established himself as one of the top right-backs around with his attacking output providing crucial to Tottenham at times.

The 24-year-old ended the campaign having netted four goals in all competitions and provided seven assists in the Premier League.

Porro’s absence through injury was felt especially hard when Emerson Royal came in as his replacement and was unable to provide anywhere near the same level.

So hearing of Porro’s omission from the Spain squad was especially surprising after he had played such a big role in the success of Postecoglou’s first campaign at the club.

And it was apparent his teammates were left completely baffled by the decision not to include the right-back in the squad to play in Germany next month.

Having heard the news himself, Porro posted his disappointment on Instagram, saying: “I was very excited about the possibility of being able to represent my country in the Euros, but in the end it won’t be possible this year.

“Respect and admiration for all of the players who will be defending our colours. From here I will be supporting the team hoping we have great joy. Come on guys”

His captain, Son took to his Instagram to share some words of encouragement, he replied: “You are the best”.

Whilst Van de Ven also provided a simple reply with the face-palm emoji and a love heart.

Pedro Porro’s news shows how tightly knit this Spurs side now is

One thing which has come out of Postecoglou’s first campaign at the helm is the Australian is building his squad around player’s with good characters.

Speaking ahead of the summer transfer window, Postecoglou commented on the type of person who he wants to bring to Hotspur Way.

“The reality is that this club needs guys who are going to be up for a fight because nothing is guaranteed here,” he told the media.

And this can certainly be seen through the way Porro’s teammates have swarmed to his support after he’s received this news.

Although Porro only has three caps for his national side, this news must have come as a surprise, but he clearly has his Spurs teammates around him as he now has a full summer to rest up.
