As the Celtic fan’s celebrations of winning the Scottish Cup die down, the fallout over the Hampden final continues.
Brendan Rodgers picked up his ninth winners medal, Celtic’s 118th, as the Hoops boss after Adam Idah tucked away a last-minute winner against Rangers at Hampden.
A Jack Butland blunder gifted the Celtic striker a six-yard chance and Idah does what he does best and tucked it away nicely to send the Hoops fans into cloud nine.
However, it wasn’t Butland’s error that had Ally McCoist fuming at the Hampden result. It was something entirely different.
Why Ally McCoist slams ‘scandalous’ SFA officials
The former Rangers striker has had all Bank Holiday weekend to stew over the result.
And after having an extra day off, McCoist let rip about what he thought of the SFA officials after watching his team lose again to Celtic.
McCoist said [talkSPORT], “Well we were, let’s be honest about he’s got a point there [about Clement claiming his team were unlucky].
“Jeff, scandalous. Absolutely scandalous, honestly. But I’ve come to expect it.
“The incompetence of our officials is nothing short of ridiculous Jeff, it’s bordering on embarrassing.
“They disallow the goal for a shove. Okay. They might have been a little shove, I can understand that.
“But they go back two seconds. They’ve got to give a penalty. The boy’s [Greg Taylor] got his arms wrapped around the guy [Nicolas Raskin] who eventually does the little shove.
“It’s just total incompetence Jeff but we’ve come to expect it and that’s the way it goes.”
Where to even start with this incredible rant? Ok, first off, it was a clear foul. All day long. Former SFA officials and pundits have been unanimous in this.
There was no need for Raskin to make this clear push on Joe Hart. If he had just left the Celtic goalkeeper alone the Rangers goal would have stood because I don’t think Hart was anywhere near the cross.
And as for Greg Taylor holding Raskin. That happened after the push on Joe Hart but let’s not let facts get in the way of a good rant.
And even if it did happen before, would that have been enough to award a penalty? I don’t think so.
McCoist has had a nightmare here and is clearly hurting now that the realisation sets in that Rangers are not as close to Celtic as many in the media would have had people believe.
