Unai Emery follows Mikel Arteta with ‘disingenuous’ change after Aston Villa contract news

Unai Emery’s future will remain at Aston Villa after the Spaniard penned a new deal with the club, with one change noticed in the announcement.

After steering Aston Villa to a fourth-place finish in his first full season at Villa Park, Unai Emery received high praise and has now signed a refreshed contract extension with the club.

It was only last month that Emery signed an extension on his previous deal to extend his stay to 2027 however, NSWE made it clear that the Spaniard’s position at the club was integral to future success as a fresh offer to extend to 2029 was presented.

The former Arsenal manager extended his stay after the highs of the 2023/24 campaign, with everything surrounding Villa overwhelmingly positive at present.

As well as committing his future to the Villans, Emery saw one element of his position at the club change, as the four-time Europa League winner’s title was amended.

Unai Emery’s title at Aston Villa changed after signing a contract extension

Prior to the latest contract update, Emery was regarded as Villa’s head coach, a title that has since been upgraded to manager.

The switch in title may seem largely insignificant in comparison to what the Spaniard’s future being at Villa means to the club, however, the change indicates a step up on his journey in the Midlands.

The Villa boss has followed the likes of Mikel Arteta in seeing his job title change, signifying a greater sense of power at the helm, as noted by journalist Jacob Tanswell.

“Unai Emery’s official title has changed from head coach to manager. Most see it as a case of semantics, but as was the case with Mikel Arteta, it’s disingenuous.

“A head coach is Chelsea – to focus on the first team – Emery controls everything from a football perspective!”

From how Villa play on the pitch, to transfers, to contracts, to finances, Emery is deeply invested in the future of Villa far beyond the 11 players he selects to play week-in-week-out.

It’s an exciting time for Villa all thanks to Emery, whose new contract at the Midlands club is a reward for his remarkable work in B6 so far.

Aston Villa will be delighted with Unai Emery’s contract extension

The news of Emery’s new deal was announced by the club on Monday, with Chairman Nassef Sawiris having a lot to say about the decision to offer the boss a refreshed contract.

As noted on Aston Villa’s official website, Sawiris admitted he is ‘delighted’ that Emery penned a new deal, stressing that the club are ‘building something special’.

After securing Champions League football for the 2024/25 campaign, the manager wrote himself into club history for his work this season, setting a new record for Villa’s highest points tally in the Premier League.

The only way is up for Villa and Emery, who capped his message after penning a new deal off by saying there are ‘no limits to our dreams’, with next season a starting point to deliver even greater success.
