Latest Sheffield Wednesday transfer news, including Ike Ugbo, Mika Biereth and more

Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer plans have begun to emerge as the summer transfer window approaches.

English clubs will kick off their transfer business in just over two weeks, with Sheffield Wednesday eager to improve their chances of a top half finish next season.

The Owls have already confirmed that the likes of George Byers and Reece James will leave the club at the end of their contracts, while a number of loan stars will return to their parent clubs too.

Wednesday’s squad is now particularly lacking in depth, and they have already begun shortlisting their targets for what should be a very busy summer.

Danny Rohl’s side have so far been linked with returns for three of their loanees, while they have also been linked with an exciting Arsenal striker.

Here we have rounded up the latest Sheffield Wednesday transfer news…

Ike Ugbo to Sheffield Wednesday latest

It comes as no surprise that Sheffield Wednesday are eager to re-sign Ike Ugbo this summer, with the striker returning to Troyes after netting seven goals in the Championship.

The French club were relegated to Ligue 2 last week and could cash in on Ugbo, who is unlikely to want to play in the second division.

The Owls have already kicked off their pursuit of Ugbo, with reports claiming they have now ‘initiated contact’ over a deal for the Canadian.

However, Wednesday face competition from ‘a number of clubs’ who have already been in contact with Troyes.

For now, Ugbo is set to compete in the Copa America with Canada, so any deal will have to wait until after the tournament.

Dejphon Chansiri transfer stance emerges

With Danny Rohl signing a new contract at the club, it was expected that Dejphon Chansiri would be preparing to provide the German with transfer funds this summer.

Reports have now claimed that transfer fees will be made available ‘if the deal is deemed right’, with each deal being judged ‘case by case’.

The chairman hasn’t set Rohl a specific budget, but will be prepared to steer away from just free signings and loan deals.

This will give the head coach a huge boost in the transfer window, having only made four loan signings in January.

Sheffield Wednesday revisit interest in Arsenal gem

As well as Ugbo, Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly also looking to sign Arsenal striker Mika Biereth.

The Owls already expressed interest in the 21-year-old back in January, but he went onto join Austrian club Sturm Graz instead.

Biereth netted 15 goals and provided nine assists across two loan spells last season, while he could be sent back out by the Gunners this summer.

Wednesday are set to face a ‘competitive battle’ if they want to bring Biereth to Hillsborough though, while Sturm Graz are expected to try to sign him permanently.
