'It's a bit boring': TalkSPORT pundit shares his one fear about Enzo Maresca at Chelsea

Chelsea look set to appoint Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca as their new manager.

According to the reliable Fabrizio Romano, Enzo Maresca thinks Chelsea‘s squad is a good fit for his football and he is keen on joining the Blues.

The above comes after Mauricio Pochettino‘s departure from the club last week.

The Argentine left Stamford Bridge by mutual consent, leaving Chelsea in need of a new manager.

In Maresca, they now look to have found their man.

Enzo Maresca’s football

Maresca guided Leicester to promotion this season, winning the Championship with 97 points.

Yet it does not look like Leicester supporters were always satisfied with their manager and his team.

Former Premier League midfielder Darren Ambrose has claimed on talkSPORT that the Leicester fans he knows were not too impressed with Maresca’s football while describing it as “boring”.

For Ambrose, that is definitely not what Chelsea need right now. On the Italian’s style of play at the Foxes, he said: “I know some Leicester supporters. They won the Championship and they were still criticising the way they play.

“They pass you to death, they pass everyone off the pitch. It’s a bit boring, and I don’t think that’s what Chelsea are looking for.”

Another Maurizio Sarri

When Maurizio Sarri was at Chelsea, the Blues dominated possession.

According to WhoScored, their average figure during the 2018/19 Premier League season was 59.9%. Only Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City recorded a higher number (64%).

It was boring to watch at times, frustrating Chelsea supporters in the ground whenever the team were not winning.

Based on that, Maresca could be in for a difficult time if his football does not produce results.

The possession Chelsea have under the 44-year-old needs to be meaningful, should he join the Blues as expected. If not, things could turn ugly real quickly, as Chelsea fans must be starting to lose patience with the club after all of these constant changes and the lack of success over the last two seasons.
