Many Leicester fans are ‘scared’ Enzo Maresca could take key player with him to Chelsea

Many Leicester City fans on social media are now quite worried that one of their key players could follow Enzo Maresca to Chelsea this summer.

Based on all the speculation in the media, Leicester manager Enzo Maresca looks set to leave the King Power Stadium to take up the position of Chelsea head coach.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano reports via X that Maresca’s switch to Chelsea is “almost done” and the deal is nearly agreed.

The 44-year-old coach looks primed to land the biggest job of his managerial career so far by arriving at Stamford Bridge.

Leicester fans fear their key player could join Chelsea

A selection of Leicester supporters online predict that Maresca could try take Foxes goalkeeper Mads Hermansen with him to Chelsea.

Hermansen, who started 44 out of 46 league matches this season, played a key role in Leicester’s title-winning success in the Championship.

The 23-year-old keeper was signed by the Foxes last summer under Maresca. So, could the incoming Chelsea manager now recommend the gloveman to the Blues hierarchy?

Here are some Leicester fans on X fearful that Chelsea could attempt a raid for Hermansen.

One fan said: “I’m not ready for Enzo taking Mads from us.”

Another wrote: “If Enzo goes I can see him wanting to take Mads Hermansen with him.”

One commented: “You 100% go for Hermansen.”

Another posted: “I can bet bro he will surely go for Hermansen. He is one the player who suits his system.”

Another said: “Also they will defo come in for Hermansen, KDH and Fatawu next season.”

Who is Mads Hermansen?

Hermansen’s senior career so far includes a breakthrough at Danish club Brondby, followed by one season so far in Leicester colours.

He’s set to taste the Premier League for the first time next season with the Foxes, albeit their supporters are worried there could soon be transfer speculation linking him to Chelsea.

In fairness, Hermansen is tailor-made for Maresca’s style of football. He’s a goalkeeper that is super comfortable with the ball at his feet, something he was frequently asked to show in the Leicester team this campaign.

FBREF data records that Hermansen ranked 41st for all players in the Championship this season when it comes to passes completed (1846). It’s quite striking to see a goalkeeper place so highly in this metric.

The Chelsea Chronicle has doubts about Blues goalkeepers Djordje Petrovic and Robert Sanchez when it comes to their own ball-playing qualities. So, will Maresca ask the club to invest in a new goalkeeper more suited to his clear style of possession-based football?
